Features of Azerbaijani Wines
Arab historians and geographers - Abulfida, Ibn Hawqal, Masudi, Al Muqaddas - give information about the existence of vineyards in Barda, Ganja and other regions of Azerbaijan during the Arab rule. Describing the wealth of Azerbaijan, the tenth-century Arab geographer Al Muqaddas wrote, "… this province is large and beautiful, and there are many fruits and grapes." The Greek scholar Herodotus (fifth century BC), the Roman scholar Pliny the Elder (23-79 BC), the Greek geographer Stroban (first century BCE), and the Roman historian Ammian Masellin (c. II-III centuries, 330-400) noted that viticulture played a special role in the life of Azerbaijan.
